Four people were hospitalized on Saturday evening after a vehicle fired shots at a crowd outside a boxing venue in Loganholme, a suburb south of Brisbane. The incident occurred at 8:15 p.m. at Fitzys Loganholme on Bryants Road, which was hosting the Logan City Titles Fight Night. Attendees who had gathered for the event were left with gunshot wounds.
Queensland Police responded to the licensed premises after reports of gunshots. Officers stated that the vehicle responsible for the shooting was observed leaving the scene. The four injured individuals were transported to a hospital where medical staff are currently assessing their conditions. Police Deputy Commander Chris Stream described the scene as "confronting" and confirmed that multiple people sustained gunshot injuries.
Logan Mayor Jon Raven said the shooting caused fear among residents in the area. Raven told the Today show that the event had a shockwave effect on the community because such incidents were rare in Logan. He noted that he had attended previous fight nights at the venue and described the atmosphere as family friendly, with many children present. Raven said the experience would impact the children for the rest of their lives.
The mayor explained that the night was organized to help steer young people away from violence. He said the event organizer uses boxing to empower and reconnect young people who might be struggling. Raven stated that the organizer would be devastated by the shooting because it was the opposite of the intended goal. Raven said his thoughts were with the victims, the staff, and everyone at the event.
Logan City Titles posted a statement on social media on Sunday morning. The organizers said they were heartbroken about the incident at the fight night. They described the event as one for the community that showcased local talent and hard work inside the ring. The statement added that these types of incidents have no place in the boxing community or any part of the broader community.
Police said the offenders remain at large. They stated they did not believe there was an ongoing threat to the public. Authorities urged anyone with information about the shooting to come forward and contact them.
