Gemini Android Update Caps Recent Chats at Five and Merges Settings
A server-side push is reorganizing the navigation drawer and consolidating all preferences into a single page for Android users.

Android users of the Gemini app are seeing a simplified interface that limits the visible history of recent conversations to five items. The change requires no new download from the app store, as Google is delivering the update through a server-side push. This follows a recent adjustment that renamed the Spark feature to Task.
The navigation drawer has been restructured to reduce clutter. The search bar has moved to the top-right corner. New chat remains the first option in the list, while Library has shifted to a position directly beneath it. Previously, Library appeared near the bottom of the drawer. Users must tap a "More" option to view additional recent chats beyond the initial five displayed.
For subscribers to the AI Ultra plan, the full expanded list includes New chat, Library, Images, Scheduled, Daily brief, Customize, Students, Videos, and Gems. The consolidation of settings is the second major component of this update. Google has combined preferences that were previously split between the account menu and a separate Gemini Settings area into one unified page.
The account menu now serves a narrower function, limited to switching accounts, leaving feedback, or accessing help. The new Settings page begins with Manage account and Usage limits. A Preferences section follows, listing Notifications, Personal Intelligence, Avatar, Task settings, Theme, Skills, Voice, Media, Device controls, Cart and orders, and Gemini Notebook. Theme is the only entry in that section marked as new.
Two additional sections complete the settings page. Data & privacy contains options for Import memory, Contact info from your devices, Gemini Apps Activity, Your public links, and the Privacy Help Hub. The Get support section lists Help, Report a problem, About, and Updates. These same interface changes reached iOS, macOS, and web users last week alongside the launch of Gemini 4 Argon.
Recent developments in the Gemini app ecosystem also include Gemini Notebook becoming a Connected App for deeper integration. Free users are now moved to Auto models as the app adds thinking levels. A new Map tool has also arrived, coinciding with the replacement of the "/" shortcut by the "@" symbol.
