Apple will begin rolling out iOS 27.2 to the general public next week. The update serves as the primary software release for most iPhone users, following iOS 27.1, which was restricted to the iPhone Duo.
The update extends the Dual Capture feature to group FaceTime calls. Previously introduced in iOS 27, Dual Capture allows users to display views from both the front and rear cameras simultaneously. In the current version, this functionality is limited to one-on-one video conversations. With the upcoming update, participants in group calls on compatible devices can tap the Flip button to activate the rear camera while keeping the front camera active.
Apple is also restructuring the Apple Podcasts application. The Up Next queue, currently located at the top of the Home tab, will be divided into two distinct sections. The first section, labeled New Episodes, will replace the existing Up Next list and compile the latest releases from shows the user follows. The second section, Continue Playing, will appear directly below the new episodes. This area will aggregate shows that a listener has started but not yet finished.
A 9to5Mac writer who tested the beta version noted that the previous Up Next feature was cluttered. The outlet stated that the new layout helps users track their listening progress more effectively.
User profiles are arriving in the Apple TV app on iPhone for the first time. While profiles have been available on tvOS devices, this change brings the feature to the iOS platform. Upon opening the TV app after the update, users will encounter a profile selection screen. This prompt can be disabled, preventing it from appearing on future launches.
Once a profile is selected, the app adjusts its content recommendations to match the specific viewer. When a child’s profile is active, the app filters content to display only age-appropriate series and movies from Apple. The outlet reported that this setup keeps adult viewing queues uncluttered and prevents children from encountering unsuitable material on a parent’s device.
According to the report, iOS 27.2 includes new features in six iPhone apps in total.
