Latvia's National Armed Forces confirmed on Saturday that they have recovered the wreckage of a drone. The debris was located in the Alūksne district. This discovery resolves a mystery that had puzzled authorities for several days.

The military stated that the unmanned aerial vehicle likely crossed into Latvian airspace on October 18. This date marks the beginning of the incident in question. The aircraft remained undetected for a full week before the physical evidence was found.

The event first gained attention when witnesses reported a loud noise. The sound resembled an explosion. This alert triggered an immediate response from the National Armed Forces and the State Police. Both groups began a search for the potential crash site.

Initial efforts to locate the drone were unsuccessful. Authorities paused the search after two days of looking. They determined that the available data was insufficient to identify the object or its origin. The search was suspended until new information emerged.

A new investigation is now underway to determine the specific circumstances of the event. An internal review has also been launched. This review aims to assess how the incident unfolded. It will also examine the factors that allowed the drone to enter the airspace undetected.

Officials emphasized that the impact on the public was minimal. No civilians were injured in the incident. Civilian infrastructure remained intact and undamaged. Authorities have not identified any further threats to the region at this time.

This discovery follows a similar event in a neighboring country. On Sunday, October 18, Lithuania found wreckage in the village of Juodžionys. This village is located in the Pasvalys district. The drone had violated Lithuanian airspace during that incident.

Lithuania reported that the drone entered its airspace from Poland. Prime Minister Mindaugas Sinkevičius provided details on the object. He stated that the drone contained explosives. This finding highlighted the potential danger of the breach.

Heorhii Tykhyi, the spokesman for Ukraine's Ministry of Foreign Affairs, commented on the Lithuanian incident. He suggested that Russian electronic warfare measures were likely the cause. Tykhyi added that Ukraine expressed regret over the occurrence. This statement provides context for the recent series of airspace violations in the region.
