Apple will unveil a completely redesigned MacBook Pro on October 28 at an event named "Pro and tell." The new machine will not include a chip upgrade, according to reporting by Mark Gurman.

The laptop features a lighter and thinner body compared to current models. It includes an OLED display that supports touch input. The device replaces the screen notch with a Dynamic Island. Some reports also suggest the inclusion of a C2 cellular modem.

The processor inside the new unit remains unchanged. It utilizes the M5 Pro and M5 Max chips that launched nearly eight months ago. This means the new hardware offers no performance increase over the versions currently on sale.

Apple is skipping the M6 Pro and M6 Max processors entirely. The company plans to fast-track M7 Pro and M7 Max chips for release in 2027. The October 28 release fills the gap between these two generations.

The starting price for the redesign could reach approximately $2,999. This potential premium comes despite the lack of a speed boost. 9to5Mac suggests Apple might replace current M5 models at the same price point. However, the outlet describes that scenario as unlikely given the current memory crisis.

Apple has not confirmed the rumored details publicly. The October 28 event will determine how much of the reporting is accurate. The company must now explain to professional users why they should buy a slower-priced redesign when M5 Pro and M5 Max models are still available.
