Android 17 has arrived early for the OnePlus 15 and OnePlus Pad 4 in India. The stable release of ColorOS 17 began on October 23, seven days before the October 29 date set in the company's original schedule. This launch marks the final step in the retirement of OxygenOS, the software layer OnePlus used on its global devices.
The shift to ColorOS follows the company's decision to phase out its custom interface after scaling back global operations. OxygenOS had previously served as a distinct skin for international markets, but it is being replaced by the software developed by parent company Oppo. The transition was announced when OnePlus consolidated its product lines, leaving the OnePlus 15 and Pad 4 as the first models to complete the move.
ColorOS 17 is built on Android 17 and was available in beta testing for several weeks before this stable release. OnePlus framed the update as a focus on artificial intelligence and seamless connectivity. The company stated that the software aims to help users turn ideas into finished work with AI and to allow movement between tasks and devices with less friction. A key theme of the release is described as allowing users to flow with AI across their devices.
The initial rollout is limited to two devices. The OnePlus 15 and the OnePlus Pad 4 are the only models receiving the update in this first wave. Other hardware, including the previous generation of flagships and various Nord models, has been confirmed for the update. The next scheduled wave is set for October 30, which will include the OnePlus 13.
The update is expected to spread to other regions in the coming days. Specific dates for markets outside India have not been confirmed beyond the initial launch and the October 30 follow-up for the OnePlus 13. The early start in India represents a deviation from the timeline published earlier this year.
This software change occurs during a period of significant restructuring for the brand. Reports indicate that the OnePlus 15 and other models sold out in the United States following the shutdown of most global operations. The company has also recently introduced the OnePlus 16, which features a 9,000 mAh battery. The early arrival of ColorOS 17 aligns with these recent hardware and operational shifts.
The stable build is now available for regular users in India. It replaces the beta version that was distributed to a smaller group of testers. The update includes the standard Android 17 features alongside the specific interface elements of ColorOS. The transition effectively ends the use of OxygenOS on new flagship hardware, consolidating OnePlus under the Oppo software umbrella.
