Real Estate Search: Home Listings Now Include Childcare Data
Redfin has integrated Winnie’s database of over 250,000 licensed providers into its property pages, allowing buyers to view early education options within a 10-mile radius.

Redfin has launched a new feature that displays nearby early care and education programs directly on property listing pages. The update, which debuted on the company’s mobile and desktop websites, pulls data from Winnie, a national online marketplace for childcare. This integration allows prospective buyers to view up to five nearby providers, including licensed center-based, home-based, and school-based programs, alongside their distance from the home and the ages they serve.
The move addresses a common overlap in family life where housing and childcare represent the two largest financial outlays. Daryl Fairweather, chief economist at Redfin, noted that searching for a home often coincides with having a child. He stated that knowing childcare options before committing to a mortgage helps families calculate their true affordable budget. The feature sits next to the existing K-12 school ratings provided by the nonprofit GreatSchools, a tool available on Redfin for more than ten years.
The partnership began with a Redfin report exploring the intersection of housing and childcare costs. Isabelle Novak, a Redfin spokesperson, confirmed the data became available on the iOS and Android applications in late September. The system draws from Winnie’s database of more than 250,000 licensed programs nationwide. Novak explained that if no programs exist within a 10-mile radius, the listing will display a message indicating that no providers were found in that distance.
Sara Mauskopf, CEO and co-founder of Winnie, emphasized the importance of planning for care as a necessity rather than an afterthought. She recalled her own experience of scrambling for childcare after moving, a situation that can force parents to adjust work schedules. Mauskopf said the data helps families identify potential childcare deserts, which are areas lacking nearby licensed programs that may otherwise be affordable places to live.
Winnie constructs its provider profiles using public state licensing databases. About 25 percent of the 250,000 provider pages on the platform have been claimed by the operators, who can then update details such as open spaces and tuition rates. Mauskopf observed a recent shift in the industry where more providers are publishing prices online. She attributed this change to families increasingly using artificial intelligence to query program rates, which has made private pricing less effective.
While a majority of programs still require parents to visit before disclosing costs, Mauskopf said more are willing to share fees upfront. She hopes this transparency will eventually be reflected in the Redfin integration. For now, buyers can click on a provider’s name in the Redfin listing to see a pop-up with a website link, hours, address, financial assistance options, and parent reviews. Clicking through to the Winnie profile offers further details, including available slots and tuition where listed.
