Collin Sexton recorded a team-high plus-23 rating in the Los Angeles Lakers' 103-87 victory over the Los Angeles Clippers on Wednesday night at the Intuit Dome. The guard scored 21 points on 6-of-11 shooting and sank four of seven three-point attempts. The win marked the Lakers' fourth victory of the season and their second success against the Clippers in less than a week.

Sexton played a central role in the defensive effort that limited the Clippers to 35.1% shooting from the field. The Lakers forced 24 turnovers, a performance coach JJ Redick attributed to the bench unit's energy. Redick noted that the team's defensive intensity was a defining feature of the game.

The Lakers built their lead during the second quarter, outscoring the Clippers 23-4 to take a 56-38 halftime lead. Sexton sparked the run with defensive stops and offensive plays, including a sequence involving Quentin Grimes, who finished with 23 points on 7-of-15 shooting. Grimes credited Sexton for setting the defensive tone immediately upon entering the game.

"When he comes in, he don't even gotta flip that switch, he just comes in," Grimes said. "He's on 'go' probably when he wakes up honestly."

Sexton's performance validated his role following a two-year contract signed this summer. He had missed all five preseason games and the first regular-season contest due to a calf muscle strain. In the previous game, a loss to the Portland Trail Blazers on Tuesday, he missed all five of his three-point attempts. Wednesday's shooting efficiency reversed that trend.

Redick expressed confidence in Sexton's shooting ability despite the recent inconsistency. "I trust Collin Sexton catch-and-shoot threes," Redick said after the Tuesday loss. "(Career) 40% shooter. He got good looks."

Sexton described his approach to the game as a shift in personality when he steps onto the court. He told reporters that he becomes a different person during games, focusing entirely on the task at hand. Teammates are accustomed to this change, knowing he is ready to compete with high intensity.

"Whenever I step between those lines, it's war time," Sexton said. "I'm going to do whatever my team needs for me. I feel like I turn into a different person when it's time to go."
