Front line commanders in Ukraine can once again rely on full-speed data connections for their fast-moving equipment. This change removes a significant operational bottleneck that had impeded drone strikes and supply chain coordination for more than a week. The restoration ensures that military hardware moving at high velocities maintains the stable linkages required for modern combat logistics.

Defense Minister Yevhenii Khmara announced on Saturday that the ministry's monitoring systems now display stable connections for objects traveling at speeds exceeding 250 mph. President Volodymyr Zelenskyy confirmed that both the standard Starlink service and Starshield, the military-grade variant operated by SpaceX, are functioning at the necessary parameters. The speed restrictions that had caused alarm among officials are now officially lifted.

Zelenskyy emphasized the practical implications of the fix for daily operations. He stated, "Now the speed is what we need," noting that the restoration began the previous night. By morning, speeds were sufficient for full utilization. The president highlighted that this connectivity is vital for front line logistics and for defending against reactive Shahed drones, the Iranian made aircraft that Russia frequently deploys.

During the period of restriction, Ukrainian military leadership reported tangible losses. Commanders cited lost drones and disrupted mission planning as direct consequences of the reduced bandwidth. The episode has further complicated the relationship between Kyiv and Washington, which was already under strain following reports of a deal between President Donald Trump and Moscow regarding Russian diesel imports. Ukraine had viewed that trade agreement as a significant breach of trust.

Khmara attributed the resolution to direct diplomatic dialogue between the two governments. He noted that the outcome was critical for the military's drone operations, logistics networks, and overall communication infrastructure. Zelenskyy expressed gratitude to the United States and other partners, saying they took the issue seriously and provided substantive assistance in resolving the technical limitations.

The incident has raised ongoing questions about the decision making process behind the interruption of the satellite internet system built by Elon Musk's company. Ukraine has depended on this infrastructure for years to counter Russian attacks. Trump has maintained that he did not order the speed caps, while simultaneously suggesting that Musk should not be held solely responsible for the disruption.

Looking ahead, the technical fix arrives as U.S. envoys launch a renewed push to end the war. Russia agreed on Wednesday to resume three way negotiations with Washington and Kyiv next month. Additionally, Kyiv and Moscow agreed on Friday to a localized ceasefire around Oleshky, a Russian occupied town in the southern Kherson region. This truce was brokered by First Lady Melania Trump, signaling a diplomatic momentum that coincides with the restoration of military communications.
