Arsenal and Manchester City are tied at the top of the Premier League with 21 points each after Saturday's matches. The gap between the two leaders stood at three points before the weekend. That margin disappeared after City lost 2-1 to Aston Villa while Arsenal defeated Everton 2-0.

City started the season without a defeat. The loss at Villa Park ended that streak. Aston Villa now sits in sixth place with 11 points. The result also marked Villa's third consecutive league win over Manchester City under manager Unai Emery.

Nicolas Jackson scored both goals for Villa. He put the home side ahead in the sixth minute. Marc Guehi made a heavy touch that allowed John McGinn to steal the ball. McGinn set up Jackson for the first goal. Erling Haaland equalized shortly after halftime. He headed in a free kick delivered by Iliman Ndiaye. Jackson scored again in the 60th minute. He finished after a cutback from Ibrahim Mbaye, with the shot going under Gianluigi Donnarumma.

Arsenal started their match in heavy rain at the Emirates Stadium. Martin Odegaard took a corner kick in the seventh minute. Jordan Pickford saved the initial effort, but Ezri Konsa pounced on the loose ball and pushed it into the net. It was Konsa's first goal for the club. It was also Arsenal's first set-piece goal since May, ending a 13-game drought in all competitions. Ben White assisted Gabriel for the second goal in the 68th minute. White reached 200 appearances for Arsenal in that match. Gabriel scored on his 200th Premier League appearance.

Manchester City is currently appealing a ruling from an independent commission. The commission found that the club committed 114 breaches of financial rules. The club maintains it did not act wrongly. Jackson told TNT Sports that the team is working game by game.

Tottenham Hotspur beat Chelsea 2-0 at Stamford Bridge. It was Tottenham's second league win at that venue in 36 years. Mike Penders punched a corner into his own net in the 77th minute. Cole Palmer was sent off in the 80th minute after receiving a second yellow card. Mathys Tel scored the final goal in the 87th minute. Fulham beat Coventry City 1-0. Oscar Bobb scored in the 80th minute for the win.
