The Philadelphia Eagles are six games below .500 and sitting in last place in the NFC East, a situation that has intensified scrutiny on their roster. Amid these struggles, star running back Saquon Barkley publicly reaffirmed his commitment to the franchise.
Barkley addressed reporters following a 27-10 loss to the Washington Commanders on Sunday night. He stated, "I would love to be here," and added, "I plan on being here." The running back acknowledged the team's poor record but rejected the notion of seeking a trade.
He characterized his mindset as part of the solution rather than the problem. Barkley said, "I'd rather be a part of a solution to the problem and hopefully be a reason we fix it." He emphasized that he is not the type of player who wants to jump ship when a season goes wrong.
The team faces a critical timeline with one game remaining before the November 10 trade deadline. The Giants currently lead the NFC East and will host Philadelphia next Sunday. The Eagles also dealt with injuries during the recent game, including issues for quarterback Jalen Hurts.
Barkley played a limited role against Washington due to hamstring and back problems. He recorded 14 touches for 54 yards and a touchdown. In his third season with the team, he has rushed for 274 yards on 56 carries and caught seven passes for 41 yards.
The Eagles recently traded offensive lineman Cam Jurgens to the Baltimore Ravens for two draft picks. That move has opened the door to further roster changes, yet Barkley maintains his preference to remain in Philadelphia.
