José Eduardo Derbez spoke to reporters for the first time on November 1, hours after he and Paola Dalay publicly confirmed their separation. He was approaching a theater in Mexico City for a performance when media outlets, including Hoy, asked him about the end of their marriage.
When pressed on the specific reason for the breakup, the actor described the dynamic in simple terms. "There are moments of going up and down in a relationship, and here it was time to go down," he said.
Derbez also addressed why the couple waited several weeks to make the news public despite persistent rumors. He explained that they used that time to take distance and see if the issues could be fixed. "It obviously didn't get solved clearly, but we are very good and besides, we are very good friends and we get along very well," he assured the crowd.
The actor directly denied speculation that infidelity played a role in the divorce. "Nothing, there was no infidelity," he stated.
The couple began their relationship in October 2019. They welcomed their daughter, Tessa, on June 30, 2024. The child turned two years old in June of this year.
