Heidi Klum opened the 25th edition of her annual New York Halloween party on Saturday wearing a costume that transformed her into a massive, severed hand. The look marked a quarter-century of hosting the event, which has become a fixture of the city's October calendar.
Klum described the process of getting into the outfit as a five to six hour ordeal. The costume featured her left hand enlarged to a giant scale, complete with long red nails, a thumb ring, and her engagement and wedding bands. The top of the hand displayed dangling ligaments and tendons, while blood dripped from her mouth.
The supermodel said the concept struck her last year after she examined her own hand. “I looked at my hand and I thought, ‘Hey, I think I could fit my body in this somehow,’” Klum said. She noted that the prosthetic structure was heavy, adding, “Hands down, the hardest thing is carrying it.”
Her husband, musician Tom Kaulitz, missed the party due to a tour schedule. However, Klum incorporated a tattoo of his name onto the ring finger of the costume, alongside detailed palm lines and veins. She described the inclusion as a way to keep a part of him with her during the night.
The event featured helpers in blood-stained hazmat suits assisting Klum. This year's hand costume joins a history of elaborate disguises, including a worm in 2022, Medusa, an eight-foot transformer, and Kali. Klum posted images of the bloody application process on Instagram earlier in the day before appearing at the venue.
