Apple's new iPhone Duo is now on sale, but the device lacks the hardware required to use several of its headline features. To access the phone's stylus capabilities and achieve maximum charging speeds, owners must purchase additional gear. The total cost for the specific items recommended by 9to5Mac reaches $249.
The most notable addition is Apple Pencil support, a feature never before available on an iPhone. Users can write and sketch on both the inner and outer displays. Apple stated that the design was based on the proportions of a standard A-series paper notebook. Functionality for the stylus will arrive with the iOS 27.2 update next week. Only the Apple Pencil (USB-C) is compatible. It is currently listed at $69, a reduction from its original $79 price.
The phone is capable of charging to 50 percent in roughly 20 minutes, but this speed requires a specific power adapter. The retail box includes only a USB-C cable. 9to5Mac suggests two options for owners who need a new charger: Apple's 40W Dynamic Power Adapter with 60W Max at $34, or Anker's 100W USB-C charger with a five-foot cable at $29.
For drivers, the site recommends ESR's MagSafe Car Mount at $19. The device clips to an air vent and holds the phone magnetically. This setup allows CarPlay to display maps on the car's screen while the phone shows step-by-step directions in Apple Maps. The larger display of the Duo is expected to improve the visibility of these directions.
Several protective cases are available for the new model. Third-party options include the SPIDERCASE Magnetic Case with a built-in stand and screen protector at $29, and the Spigen Ultra Hybrid Pro at $39. Apple offers its own solutions, including the iPhone Duo Folio with Kickstand at $129 and the standard iPhone Duo Case at $79.
The Duo also enhances StandBy mode, allowing the phone to display various views while upright without being connected to a charger. Two of these views, Home Camera and Home Modular, provide access to smart home accessories. For users interested in monitoring security cameras, 9to5Mac recommends the Aqara G100 2K camera at $39 or a eufy 4K camera at $69.
As a general recommendation, the site included AirPods Pro 3 for buyers without current earbuds. The product is on sale at Amazon for $199, down from $249. The writer noted that the noise cancellation feature helps with focus during work hours.
