Roope Hintz scored at 3:47 of overtime to give the Dallas Stars a 3-2 victory over the Winnipeg Jets on Thursday night. The goal came off a pass from Miro Heiskanen following a defensive stop by Jason Robertson. The win capped a high-scoring effort at American Airlines Center where Dallas outshot Winnipeg 38-19.
The sequence began with a shared recovery. Heika reported that a turnover by Robertson created the initial Winnipeg chance, which he then blocked. Heiskanen immediately converted that defensive play into an offensive opportunity by sending Hintz in on a breakaway. Hintz finished the chance to end the game.
Heiskanen played a heavy workload during the match. With Esa Lindell scratched, Heiskanen logged 29:20 of ice time. Thomas Harley followed closely with 28:27. The next Dallas defender, Lian Bichsel, played 17:47. Nils Lundkvist, Tyler Myers, and Kyle Capobianco also contributed to the defensive group. These totals reflect the reliance on the top two defensemen for the duration of the game.
Winnipeg controlled the score for much of the regulation. Johnston opened the scoring early in the second period. Gabriel Vilardi and Kyle Connor later added goals to put the Jets ahead. The Stars trailed until Hintz scored a six-on-five equalizer with two minutes remaining in the third period. That goal forced the game into extra time.
The Stars created more chances than they capitalized on during regulation. Connor Hellebuyck was not the only factor in the tight score, as Winnipeg goaltender Skinner made 35 saves. The defensive structure limited Winnipeg's opportunities, but Dallas failed to convert its volume into a wider lead before the end of regulation.
Heiskanen finished the game with five shots, one block, and the winning assist. Harley did not record a goal. The defensive duo provided the structure necessary for the offense to function, culminating in the single finish that decided the result. Lindell's absence was the primary factor in the heavy minutes, and no return date or rotation change was announced following the game.
