Maggiano's Little Italy is set to take over the former Brio Italian Grille location at Crabtree Valley Mall in Raleigh, marking the chain's second arrival in the Triangle region. The expansion follows a recent wave of new dining concepts targeting North Carolina markets, alongside fresh recognition from the Michelin Guide. No opening date has been announced for the new Maggiano's location.

At the 2026 Michelin Guide American South ceremony held in Nashville, three local establishments received new Bib Gourmand designations. Ajja in Raleigh, Ideal's sandwich shop in Durham, and Tesoro, an 18-seat pasta restaurant in Carrboro, earned the distinction. Six other Triangle restaurants, including Prime Barbecue and Mala Pata, retained their Bib status, while sixteen others kept their Michelin recommended listings.

Beyond Maggiano's, two other major franchises are preparing for local debuts. Millie's Homemade Ice Cream, a Pittsburgh-based company, plans to open its first North Carolina store at 325 Blake St. in City Market. The shop will sit next to Blackbird Books and Coffee, with a target opening date before the end of the year. Meanwhile, South Block, a Charlotte-based acai bowl and smoothie chain, is preparing a location at 4121 Main at North Hills St. in Raleigh, adjacent to the restaurant bartaco.

Several independent restaurants also opened or rebranded during this period. In Durham, M Kikkei, previously known as M Pocha, is scheduled for an invitation-only soft opening on October 24 and a grand opening on October 29. The restaurant serves Nikkei cuisine, which combines Japanese techniques with Peruvian ingredients. In Apex, Grain & Berry opened its second North Carolina location at Beaver Creek Crossings, and Winston's Grille in Raleigh celebrated its 40th anniversary this year.

The Triangle dining calendar is packed with events for late October and early November. The first Chapel Hill Biscuit Festival takes place on October 25 at American Legion Post 6, with proceeds benefiting SECU Family House. On October 29, chefs will host a Yellowstone Dinner at Holl & Stone Farm in Garner. Preeti Waas is holding a "Super Spooky Sandwich" popup on October 31 in Durham, with the menu releasing on October 24.

In November, the Chefs for Change Gala & Auction is scheduled for November 5 at The Cookery, supporting Families Moving Forward. Botiwalla will host a Diwali party at Iron Works on November 6. The third Rawleigh Oyster Fest, themed "Smoke & Shuck," is set for November 7 at Raleigh Iron Works. Organizers introduced a $60 Half Shell ticket option after feedback that previous pricing was too high. The last two editions of the festival sold out and raised approximately $12,500 combined.

The Trophy Trot 5K returns for its 10th year at Dix Park on Thanksgiving morning, November 26, benefiting Healing Transitions. Nearly 3,000 participants signed up last year, raising about $60,000, an increase from $42,000 the previous year. The North Carolina State Fair continues through Sunday. Separately, the Food Bank is observing Tackling Hunger Month, noting that more than 600,000 neighbors in the region are unsure where their next meal will come from. The organization states that every $25 donation provides 75 meals.
