In the final two weeks of October, Elon Musk’s personal political committee, America PAC, injected more than $76 million into the midterm election cycle, according to a pre-election report filed with the Federal Election Commission on Thursday evening. This massive infusion of capital marks a significant acceleration of spending as the race enters its decisive phase. The committee reported spending nearly $43 million during that same period, entering the last leg of the campaign with a cash reserve of almost $47 million.

The Texas Senate contest absorbed the largest share of these new expenditures, drawing $15.2 million in the two-week window. This figure represents double the amount the PAC allocated to that specific race throughout the entire summer. Of that total, $12.4 million was directed toward attacking Democratic candidate James Talarico, while $2.8 million was used to promote Republican challenger Ken Paxton. Subsequent daily filings indicate an additional $9.1 million spent against Talarico, bringing the cycle’s total spending against him to nearly $28 million. This single target now accounts for roughly 40 percent of all funds the PAC has deployed to support or oppose candidates this year.

Beyond the geographic focus, the PAC has shifted its strategic emphasis toward digital channels. In the same two-week period, the group allocated $11.4 million to online advertising. This digital spend is now comparable to the combined totals spent on traditional mail and text messaging efforts, signaling a pivot toward modern, data-driven campaign tactics.

Musk’s influence extends far beyond this recent surge. An analysis of Federal Election Commission filings indicates he has donated more than $445 million to Republican political groups this election cycle, cementing his status as the largest known individual donor in the midterms. Of that total, over $165 million has flowed into America PAC since July alone. The PAC declined to provide comment on the latest filings or its spending priorities.

The financial campaign has been accompanied by a vigorous online presence from Musk, who holds significant corporate stakes in Texas through companies like Tesla and SpaceX. On Wednesday, the billionaire posted on X that he believed something was "deeply wrong" with Talarico. He subsequently labeled the Democrat "a creep" and claimed, without providing evidence, that Talarico would vote to remove children from their parents to transition them. Earlier in the month, Musk amplified a false claim regarding Talarico’s mental health history. Talarico responded the same day, stating that it was "deeply wrong" for a political system to allow one trillionaire to effectively purchase a Senate seat.

Despite the heavy spending, the Texas race remains statistically competitive. An Emerson College poll conducted October 17 to 19, surveying 1,000 likely voters, found Talarico leading Paxton by a two-point margin, with the Democrat at 48 percent and the Republican at 46 percent. This difference falls within the poll’s three-point margin of error, indicating a genuine toss-up.

The stakes for Musk extend well beyond the outcome of the Texas race. If Democrats secure control of the House, committee leaders have signaled plans to investigate his role in the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE). They also intend to examine federal contracts awarded to his companies and what California Representative Zoe Lofgren described as an "astounding" number of conflicts of interest. A unified Democratic Congress would present an even more challenging legislative environment for the billionaire.

Silicon Valley Democrats have added another layer of scrutiny to the equation. On Friday, Representatives Sam Liccardo, Jimmy Panetta, and Ro Khanna sent a letter to the White House demanding an investigation into SpaceX’s Starshield satellite service in Ukraine. The lawmakers vowed that the next Congress would closely scrutinize all federal funding awarded to Musk’s businesses, ensuring that financial interests remain a central point of debate in the post-election landscape.
