Residents of Southern California may face wet conditions during the Halloween weekend, marking a shift from the region's typical dry autumn. If precipitation arrives on Saturday, it would result in the first rainy Halloween in Los Angeles since 2014. Temperatures across the Southland are expected to decline through the weekend as the system approaches.
Meteorologist Shanna Mendiola with NBC4 described the transition from high tides to atmospheric changes. "After we say goodbye to the tides, we say hello to all the clouds and the elements coming from the sky," she said. "We could get a chance of showers on Friday and then, Halloween weekend, looking like the rain is going to return."
Forecasters currently rely on two major meteorological models, the European Model and the American Model, to track the storm's path. These systems provide divergent timelines for the rainfall. The European Model projects light showers on Friday, with the primary band of rain arriving from Saturday night into Sunday. In contrast, the American Model suggests the rain may not arrive until Sunday.
Mendiola noted that the timing remains fluid as the system moves closer to the coast. "As we get closer, they kind of start to agree with another and then we can get a better idea of when exactly this is happening," she said. "But I can tell you for sure we're going to have some rain this weekend."
The storm system is targeting the region this weekend, bringing a break in the dry season. While the specific day for the heaviest rain is still debated between models, precipitation is confirmed for the Halloween period.
