Fans in Milwaukee can prepare for a parade after the Brewers defeated the Tampa Bay Rays 4-1 on Wednesday night. The victory in Game 5 at Tropicana Field in St. Petersburg, Florida, secured the first World Series championship in franchise history.

Jacob Misiorowski led the pitching effort, throwing 5 2/3 scoreless innings with two hits allowed. The 22-year-old ace left the game due to a right calf cramp. He faced no strikeouts in his first three innings before finishing with two, a career low. Misiorowski threw 12 straight four-seam fastballs at the start of the game, with velocities ranging from 100.9 to 103 mph. He topped 103 mph twice among his 86 pitches, 58 of which were strikes.

Rookie Cooper Pratt provided the offensive spark, recording two hits and two runs batted in. Pratt set a Series rookie record with six consecutive hits before a sacrifice fly in the sixth inning. Jackson Chourio set a five-game Series record with 11 hits. David Hamilton drove in a run with a single that scored Pratt in the fifth. William Contreras hit an RBI double in the sixth to extend the lead. Trevor Megill closed the game, allowing an RBI double to Chandler Simpson with two outs in the ninth before retiring Richie Palacios on a grounder to second.

Manager Pat Murphy led the team to the title in the 58th season for the franchise, which began as the Seattle Pilots in 1969. The Brewers had previously appeared in the 1982 World Series, where they blew a 3-1 lead in the sixth inning of Game 7 to lose to the St. Louis Cardinals. Murphy, who survived a heart attack in 2020, was named NL Manager of the Year in both 2024 and 2025.

The regular season concluded with the Brewers leading the majors with 103 wins. The team went 11-2 in the postseason, including seven comeback victories and a sweep of the Los Angeles Dodgers in the NLCS. The Brewers led the majors with only 32.1% of their runs coming from home runs, according to the Elias Sports Bureau. Tampa Bay was second lowest in that category at 34.4%.

The Rays, an expansion team that debuted in 1998, dropped to 0-3 in World Series history with this loss. The only other clubs to lose in their first three Series appearances were the Brooklyn Dodgers and Detroit Tigers. The teams combined for just four home runs in the Series, with Milwaukee accounting for three. The Brewers ranked 19th in payroll and the Rays ranked 25th as of Aug. 31, marking the first Series since 1991 between two teams in the bottom half of payrolls.

A management lockout is likely to start on Dec. 2, potentially threatening the 2027 season. Owners are pushing for a salary cap, arguing that small-market teams cannot regularly succeed. The Brewers' victory occurs against that backdrop of financial constraints.
